PERMANENT COSMETICS - FAQ's
What is Permanent Cosmetics?
Permanent Cosmetics, also known as Micropigmentation, Cosmetic Tattooing and Permanent Makeup is a popular cosmetic treatment which involves using a purpose made machine or hand tool to deposit safe, coloured pigments into the dermal layer of the skin, in order to enhance and define the eyes, eyebrows and lips in a soft and natural manner.
Is this procedure suitable for men?
Yes, there are many men who have the need for Permanent Cosmetics – although for our male clients we call this procedure – CosMan. Some of the treatments requested by men are hair simulation, lash enhancement, brow definition, scar repigmentation and many more.
How long does Permanent Cosmetics last?
Permanent Cosmetic procedures are considered permanent because the pigments are inserted into the dermal layer of the skin and cannot be washed off, however clients find that most procedures last from two to five years, with a gradual fading taking place. Depending on the colours used and the client’s own skin response, some procedures may last much longer. We recommend retouch treatments every 18 months or so to maintain definition and freshen colour.
Do I need a consultation?
Yes, consultations are an important part of the Permanent Cosmetics procedure; they ensure that both you and the technician have a full understanding of what is involved in the treatment and after-care, along with the desired result. Consultations can take place at a separate appointment if necessary, or may be completed on the day of your procedure appointment, prior to treatment commencing.
Is Permanent Cosmetics painful?
Sensation during treatment varies from person to person; some clients feel nothing at all while some clients experience slight discomfort – usually described as a ‘ticklish’ feeling. We make every effort to ensure that all procedures are as comfortable as possible by using the best available topical anaesthetics before and during treatment. Clients undertaking lip procedures may opt for a dental block to be administered by a registered dentist.
Can I choose a colour to suit me?
Absolutely! Colour choice is discussed in depth at time of consultation, colours are chosen to suit each individual based on a personal colour analysis and can be custom blended to match your own favourite pencils – the range of colours is almost endless. Although the final choice of colour belongs to the client, we will offer professional advice based on many years’ experience, results can be as understated or as dramatic as you prefer, creating a long lasting look to enhance your natural beauty.
Do I need to take time off work?
No, you may resume normal day-to-day activities following your appointment – however, after-care instructions must be followed carefully.
Do I need more than one treatment?
Yes, as a rule two treatments are necessary to achieve a perfect result; the majority of the work is completed in the initial treatment and the second treatment is to carry out any necessary perfecting adjustments. Some clients find that they are very happy after just one application, however, we recommend a second visit, even if no retouching is necessary, to assess the treatment area from a professional viewpoint. Your second appointment will be scheduled approximately four to six weeks after the initial procedure.
How long does each procedure take?
Generally procedures take around one and a half to two hours, depending on the chosen procedure - you will be advised of the exact time you need to allow when making your booking.
What is involved in the healing and post-care?
Immediately following your procedure you will notice slight swelling and redness in the treatment area, this will subside quickly and is often not noticeable after an hour or so. The colour of your new permanent cosmetics may be darker than you expect – this will not be your final colour – during the next 5 to 10 days around 30% of the initial colour will slough off and over the following 4 to 6 weeks the remaining colour will soften into the skin to reveal the end result. All clients are given complete after care instructions and advice, along with a follow up call about a week after their initial appointment. Clients are encouraged to contact us if they have any questions following their treatment.
Am I too old for Permanent Cosmetics?
Permanent Cosmetics does not have any age restrictions, other than that the client must be a consenting adult. Permanent Cosmetics can be of great benefit for those with eyesight or dexterity problems. If you have medical conditions that may contraindicate treatment you will need to have your doctor consent to treatment.
